Saturday was the Art Car Parade, a local tradition that I've attended the last several years. (pictures from 2005)
Skating is the best mode of transportation for these festivals. You get to sneak in some exercise, don't have to worry about parking, and it's much easier to search for friends when you can roll up and down the parade route.
As far as the cars themselves, I really prefer the cars that require some significant mechanical modification. While an interesting paint job has entertainment value, I'm a lot more impressed with a rolling cupcake, a big sunflower, a big star, or a fanciful beast that can double as a vehicle.
